Material Cultural Heritage
The Ming Dynasty pit cellar complex, first built in 1573, was designated by the State Council of China as one of the fourth batch of major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level in December 1996. Subsequently, the site was included in the China World Cultural Heritage Tentative List in 2006, 2012, and 2019. In March 2013, the State Council of China issued the Notice on Approving and Announcing the Seventh Batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level. Accordingly, Luzhou Laojiao’s pit cellar complex, traditional baijiu workshops, and aging caves were included in the list of the fourth batch of major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level.

Intangible Cultural Heritage
The traditional Luzhou Laojiao production techniques date back to the Qin and Han dynasties. Created, standardized, and refined through the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, these techniques have been passed down through 24 generations over 700 years. In May 2006, they were inscribed in the first batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List as representative strong-aroma baijiu production techniques. Together with the 1573 National Cellar, they are celebrated as the “Twin Living Heritages of Luzhou Laojiao”.
